Well, I was told to write a bio for this web page, so here ya go.
Name: Tom Jenkins
I was born and raised in South Scranton, where I lived up until 1998. I originally wanted to be a ‘cameraman’ for National Geographic before I started college, then I was told I HAD to do radio to get my degree. GREAT!!!! BLECH!!!! RADIO!!!!! BLAH!!!! As soon as I sat down in my first control room, WVMW-FM, Marywood College, I was hooked. I fell in LOVE with it! National Geographic?….BLECH!!!!!
I got my first REAL radio job in 1988, part-time on Solid Gold 94, which is no longer. I worked on-air there part-time, and, I don’t know if you remember it, but on Saturday nights, I was the host of the Solid Gold 94, All-Request Saturday Night Jukebox. THAT was a fun show.
I needed full-time when I graduated college, and Solid Gold just didn’t have the funds to hire me….soooooo….I ended up as the full-time overnight personality on Magic 93 in 1992. To make a long story short, I’m currently Citadel Broadcasting, Wilkes-Barre’s Production Director full-time. That means I’m in charge of all the commercials you hear on all of our stations. But I love Magic 93 so much, that I INSISTED I remain on the air as a personality part-time. OK, I lie, I was told I HAD to fill-in now and then! Actually it was a mutual agreement………..speaking of, WHERE ARE MY CONCERT TICKETS AND FREE CDs, GUYS??????
Outside of radio, I LOVE fishing. Pond fishing, lake fishing, deep sea, and especially ICE fishing. Yeah, I should be committed. It drives me CRAZY when I hear Frankie in the Morning complain about how cold it is. C’mon Frankie, it’s Northeast PA, it’s SUPPOSED to be cold in January. I own a very small bass boat that I tow all over the place for fishing, a little row boat on my secret fishing hole that I use in the spring-fall, and all the cool toys (like a shack) for when it gets cold. I love fish so much, that I have 2 aquariums. 1 at home, 1 here in the office. I LOVE to grill. MEAT!!! My favorite is BBQ Spareribs with Sweet Baby Rays BBQ Sauce. Oh great, now I’m hungry. When my wife goes shopping, she has to buy a case of that stuff just to get through the first month of grilling season.
I’m a big fan of sushi (fish again), Porterhouse steaks medium-rare please, and certain Mexican foods.
